Fire Thoughts

February 28, 2008 at 8:26 pm (art, knitting) (, , )

I’ve been quite busy since the last post.  My dad had surgery.  He’s doing great, but I spent much time knitting off my anxiety.

Giselle progress

Giselle is coming along nicely.  I just need to knit both sleeves and finish the garment.  Hooray!  Not bad for 22 days of knitting.  This picture shows the French Cable bust band (still love typing that) to the bottom edge.  The color is totally wrong (see below for why).  It’s a deep fiery red.  The sweater fits amazingly well, even though I missed an increase before I began the rapid decreases on the edge.  This works well because I am short waisted.  Voila, I made a short-waist (unintentionally, of course).

Wings

I’ve also finished my February CMP ATC.  The theme is Wings.  Between Chinese New Year, Fire for Project Spectrum, and my RSC shipment, I felt that only a dragon’s wings would suffice.  Here’s my little guy, nestling behind his wing.  I’m glad I could get a nice intensity with the watercolor pencils.  Again the The background is a watercolor wash.  Once payday hits, I am scouring the art store for better brushes (the paint has fallen off of mine) and better watercolors (these are from a cheapo set).  Sloane, a fellow Norfolk Craft Mafia member, introduced me to Jerry’s Artarama.  I see lots of trips there in my future.  The colors are off again in this pic.  And it’s blurry.  Which leads me to the following.

My camera is on its last legs.  It is a Canon PowerShot SD110 (3.2 megapixels).  We’ve had it almost three years.  I’ve been pretty happy with it, so I think I’ll get the Canon SD1100.  Husband and I are giving each other a new camera for our anniversary next week.  That way we can capture all the fun of Rosebud’s birthday party the week after.  What will we do with 5 more megapixels?

Cupcakes and ATCs

January 10, 2008 at 8:39 pm (art, cooking) (, , )

I have enough time for a quick post. Today was another interesting day. So when the going gets tough, the tough make Simple Vanilla and Agave Nectar Cupcakes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. These are so delicious. They almost have a buttery flavor even though they have no butter or shortening. I’m not a huge non-chocolate cake person. I would usually want frosting, but these babies are perfect just as they are.

I’ve participated in the Creative Mom Podcast Artist Trading Card exchange for almost a year now. Most months, I procrastinate. I may know exactly what I’m going to do, but I don’t sit down and get it done. This month I am ready. The theme is “Beginnings.” This month is also Tu B’Shevat, the New Year for Trees. This Jewish holiday was a way to calculate a tree’s age. After a certain age, you could eat the fruit of that tree.  Many people celebrate by planting trees or eating fruit. I celebrated by drawing my own new tree.
